Meet Dr. Bustamante
Pedro Bustamante completed his medical education and training at Baylor College of Medicine, finishing residency in psychiatry in 2010 and a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry in 2012. He worked in community mental health for more than 13 years before opening a private practice. This experience allowed him to interact with children, adolescents and families from all different walks of life, and exposed a need for high-quality, time-intensive, and collaborative mental health care.
Dr. Bustamante, or Dr. B as his younger patients call him, has extensive experience in the management of anxiety disorders, mood disorders, ADHD and disruptive behavior disorders, Austim Spectrum-related behavioral concerns, and in LGBTQ mental health. He is double-board-certified in adult psychiatry and child/adolescent psychiatry, and is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Baylor College of Medicine. His professional memberships include The American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, the Texas Society for Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, and Pride CAPA.
About the Practice
Into Focus Psychiatry is located in the new Heights Med building on W. 20th St. in the Houston Heights. Dr. Bustamante manages his practice personally, and offers services in both English and Spanish.
At the heart of the practice is a commitment to providing evidence-based mental health information and personalized assessments that empower families to make informed decisions. Dr. Bustamante listens, understands, and uncovers the context for and motivations beneath a child’s emotional and behavioral challenges. He is also passionate about reassessment over time: Interventions need to change according to developmental stage, personality, and even a physical setting. Into Focus treats the person, not the diagnosis.
Additionally, his detailed and transparent approach allows for collaborative decision making that recognizes and emphasizes the role of patient, family, educational environment, and community in the care of any child. Dr. Bustamante consistently connects these dots and has important conversations with other professionals to make the most thoughtful, informed decisions about care.
